Wrestlemania X Review

by Alfonso Colasuonno

So, we've come to the final classic PPV review for now. I am done watching the first two volumes of Wrestlemania: The Complete Anthology. Here goes!

Overall - Ladies and gentlemen, Hulk Hogan has left the WWF...and no, the world didn't fall apart. Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna, Razor Ramon, Owen Hart....these are the new stars replacing luminaries such as Hogan, Piper, Savage, Warrior, and Andre. The wrestling is top notch on this card. If only the personalities were a little shinier. Alas, that's the problem with the post-Hogan, pre-Attitude WWF era. A whole bunch of talent but no shining star.

Bret Hart v. Owen Hart - Absolute classic of a scientific match between brothers. Just two great technicians working against each other with the added heat of sibling rivalry.

Bam Bam Bigelow and Luna Vachon v. Doink and Dink - Doink is now a face, but he's still just as annoying. It's a shame to see Luna Vachon go against a midget instead of Alundra Blayze or even Bertha Faye.

Falls Count Anywhere Match - Macho Man Randy Savage v. Crush - Not just your average falls count anywhere match, this is more like a Texas Death Match....you have 60 seconds to get back to the ring after a pinfall. It was pretty gutsy action. I liked it a lot. However, Savage was definitely downgraded by facing Crush...just two years prior he fought Flair for the title. I guess he had to go to WCW.

Women's Championship Match - Alundra Blayze v. Leilani Kai - Alundra Blayze is 100% more talented than any diva in the WWE today. A pleasure to watch. Leilani Kai is looking like a has-been by now.

Tag Team Championship Match - Quebecers v. Men on a Mission - Blatant misuse of Raven as Johnny Polo, the Quebecers manager. Men on a Mission's manager did the absolute worst rap ever in accompanying his guys to the ring. He makes R. Truth look like Nas.

WWF Title Match - Yokozuna v. Lex Luger - A pretty slow paced affair. A lot of the time is spent with Yoko actually doing submissions. In the end Luger gets screwed out of the title by Mr. Perfect, rekindling their rivalry...this time with Luger as the face and Perfect as the heel.

Earthquake v. Adam Bomb - Why was this even on here. No one cares. At least it was a squash for the Quake.

Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title - Razor Ramon v. Shawn Michaels - Both men made claims for the title going into the match but only one would emerge the undisputed IC champ. Razor defeated Shawn in a nice, gruesome battle that would set the precedent for ladder matches at Wrestlemania and in the WWE. Also, watch out for the blatant butt shot of Shawn Michaels. That's more of him than I wanted to see.

WWE Championship Match - Yokozuna v. Bret Hart - After all the highlights of the night, the main event was rather anti-climatic as Hitman and Yokozuna met for the title for the second Wrestlemania in a row. It was a good match with all the faces celebrating with Bret after the match after he pinned Yokozuna who fell while attempting a banzai.
